Their wedding theme is Vintage Picnic, so April has requested that their photos have a vintage feel.

We're looking forward to their wedding - April is an interior designer and I know that she's creating a beautiful event.

I'm so excited to announce that I'm holding my first photography workshop on June 13th in San Jose, California! The focus of this class will be on basic photography lighting, composing, posing and processing for great candid shots. Workshop attendees will leave my class with a good basic foundation for better photos. The class will discuss dSLR techniques, but people with point and shoot cameras are welcome too - you'll discover that your little camera can do so much!

We'll talk about the best camera settings to use, how to manipulate different lighting situations, how to compose, and how to get those wonderful, casual poses easily and painlessly! Additionally, workshop attendees will recieve a CD with my basic package of photo editing software and some easy guides - and we'll go over some basic post-processing techniques that will help you make your photos pop quickly and simply.

The workshop will run 2 hours - from 2-4 p.m - on June 13th, 2010 in San Jose. The cost for the workshop is $40 - and that includes a CD with photo editing software and easy guides.

Please send me an email if you're interested in registering for the Ready, Set SHOOT! Workshop! You'll then receive further instructions on how to secure your spot for the class.

nissa@curiousrobincreative.com

Reservations should be in by June 7, 2010.

I cannot wait to see all of you there for the workshop!

****NOTE**** Ready, Set, SHOOT! was originally planned for June 20, but because it is Father's Day, I have rescheduled for the Sunday before that - the 13th! Please let me know if this new date causes any issues for anyone! Thank you!

Long before he was lounging on our couch, someone made the irresponsible decision to become a breeder and an even worse decision to breed many, many more dogs than they could find homes for. This person shoved dogs in confinement and gave them no attention. Hank was born to a mother dog who was treated horribly, and himself was treated horribly until he was a year and a half old - when the breeder decided that she was unable to sell any of the remaining dogs. She then dropped them off at the public shelter in Columbia.

Thankfully, the Xoloitzcuintli Rescue League took Hank and his brothers and sisters out of the shelter quickly and gave them comfortable foster homes. In this new place, scared, sick, and starving Hank was given much needed veterinary care, yummy, yummy food and treats and most importantly, more love than he'd ever known before. Hank's foster mom L took care of him until the fateful day when his new family found him - and brought him on a journey from Ohio to California.

Unfortunately, the scars of Hank's youth are very deep, and they're very persistent. Now in his home for good, Hank is working very hard to learn calm, happiness and content. He is making progress every day. Thankfully, he is surrounded by people and dogs who love him and are willing to be patient until he learns that the world is not as scary as it seems.

Good Mail

My specialty as a wedding photographer is small weddings. Not that I don't enjoy big weddings (and believe me - any wedding I get to be a part of is great!) but there's a special challenge that comes along with smaller events. There's also a different kind of warmth that I really, really love capturing.

What do I like better than small weddings?

DIY.

When my husband and I got married in 2006, it was almost entirely DIY. We didn't have any money, and we still wanted to have a memorable, beautiful wedding. In the end, it was great - everything was special, one of a kind, and our guests noticed. However, it was a lot of work.

When I met Kelli and Kristopher, they told me that their wedding would be a small Oakland City Hall wedding with reception at a nearby restaurant. I almost squealed with joy :D. Then, they told me it was DIY-even down to the invitations -and then, I really squealed.

Their wedding is in April - and I can't wait. A couple of days ago I received their invitation in the mail, and it's GORGEOUS. Enjoy!

When I met the two of them, I knew that their wedding would be both fun and a challenge - they decided quickly to get married with little planning in advance. I'm all for that. Additionally, she told me the wedding would be in the groom's Mother's backyard, and the reception in her Mother's house.

Keeping in mind the many issues that might arise from photographing an almost impromtu wedding in a tiny space with only tungsten lights available, I couldn't help but take the challenge. :D

In the end, their wedding was great. It turned out that the overcast day was warm enough for the outdoor ceremony. I'm lucky to work with brides who are totally in focus with what's important on their wedding day- brides who don't let the stress get to them. Danielle was no different! I loved the attitude she, her family and friends had all day. BJ was just as calm and collected. I think they're going to do quite well together.

After dinner and cake, Danielle, BJ and their friends ventured in to the garage to play some Rock Band. What a way to end a wedding!

Enjoy the slideshow. I think I went a little nuts, but it's because I had so many favorite images.
